Wichita’s own version of Schitt’s Creek, in bar form, is getting closer to opening
In October, Mort’s owner Morrie Sheets shared how he finally found an east-side sister site to his popular downtown bar. Now, he said he’s getting close to opening at the Waterfront.
Sheet’s Creek, a play on the Schitt’s Creek TV show, will open by April at 1720 N. Webb Road, where Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Alliance most recently was and Ciao Italian Kitchen and Piztro’s once were.
“I think we’re at eight weeks right now,” Sheets said of getting open.
There have been a couple of holdups.
First, as he attempted to replumb the space, Sheets said there were all kinds of lines from the previous restaurants.
“We couldn’t make heads or tails on what it all was.”
Finally, he had to take out the entire floor to put in new plumbing.
At the same time, he was battling surrounding neighbors at the planning commission. He said he kept getting pushback, not from the commission but from neighbors who worried about potential noise.
Sheets agreed to some limitations on the patio of the business, such as no six-piece bands. And there won’t be music after midnight on Friday and Saturday or after 10 p.m. on weeknights.
“I’m fine with that,” he said.
Now, Sheets said he’s waiting on furniture before opening.
“I’m just as ready as anybody else is.”
