West-Wichita shop that closed in May is now open with a slightly changed name and look
The new K. Lane’s & Co. is now open on the west side in the same space where previous owner Diana Schmidt had K. Lane’s Boutique in Wichita since 2005.
Lisa Hambelton, the dealer principal at Mel Hambelton Ford, purchased K. Lane’s this spring. Her daughter, Taryn Taylor, is running the business.
Taylor worked at the store almost four years ago and had considered buying it then, but the timing wasn’t quite right for her or Schmidt.
The store, which closed in late May, reopened Friday following a facelift in the shopping center at Kellogg and Tyler and restocking with new merchandise.
Previously, Taylor said, “It’s really important to me that I don’t go in and fix something that’s not broken.”
Taylor noted that she’s 29, her mother is in her 50s, and her grandmother is in her 80s.
“It’s really important to me to continue keeping K. Lane’s a generational shopping experience.”
Taylor said she wants customers to “make a girls’ day out of” shopping there. She said her plan was to keep the atmosphere and brands that customers love “and then just add a few extra things.”
The new store had a ribbon-cutting on Friday, its first day in business, and Taylor said the store had its highest-ever sales.
She said she’s thankful for the support and is “very excited to see what’s to come.”
