An almost 50-year-old Wichita business is getting a new owner along with a new name

Senseney Music is selling to Missouri-based Palen Music Center, which plans to rename the store after its own name.

This is the second time the business has changed names.

It opened in 1978 as Hume Music, according to Music & Sound Retailer, and then Denny Senseney purchased it in 1984.

The publication said Lori Supinie, who had been a Senseney Community Band bassoonist and then worked at the store in various capacities, purchased the business upon Senseney’s retirement in 2008.

Supinie died July 12.

“Lori was a dear friend and industry colleague for many years,” said Palen Music president Eric Matzat in a news release. “It is a privilege and honor to carry on the legacy of Lori Supinie and Denny Senseney.”

The store, which is at 2300 E. Lincoln, carries a variety of instruments and accessories and offers lessons and instrument repairs.

The sale is expected to be finalized by November.
