Walton’s, an almost 30-year-old business that sells items related to meat processing, is opening a second Wichita store at Slawson Cos.’ NewMarket Square at 21st and Maize Road.
The family company, which says it sells “everything but the meat,” does more than 80 percent of its business with small and medium-size meat processors nationally. It reaches customers through sales people and catalog sales.
Three years ago, Walton’s moved to a 50,000-square-foot warehouse at 3639 N. Comotara.
CEO and president Brett Walton says the family decided to do a 5,000-square-foot retail space within the warehouse. The store also sells grilling utensils and added grills to its inventory.

“The retail store’s done better even than we thought it could here,” he says.
Walton says most of the store’s customers have come from the east side, so now the family is going to see how sales do on the west side.
Walton’s will open in NewMarket Square in September in about 4,000 square feet between Cold Stone Creamery and GNC.
It’s possible that if the retail setting of NewMarket Square does well, the family could consider a retail setting on the east side instead of the warehouse it’s currently in.
“That’s a question to be determined,” Walton says. “But we will know after we’re in NewMarket.”
