Longtime Shops at Tallgrass boutique leaving for Wichita’s Waterfront
Almost 20 years after opening at the Shops at Tallgrass near 21st and Rock Road — and expanding there twice — Frou Frou is leaving for the Waterfront.
“My lease was up, and we knew we had to do some renovating,” owner Betsy Morrison said.
She said she’s always liked the look of the Waterfront at 13th and Webb Road, and she figured it might be good to simply start over there.
“We thought, you know, having a fresh start is probably a good thing.”
Frou Frou sells jewelry, clothing, home decor, candles, cookbooks and lotion. It has a children’s area and baby gifts.
“We try to carry a broad variety of products at different price points so that anybody who walks in the door can find something they like and afford,” Morrison said.
When she opened in 2004, Morrison focused on jewelry.
“That’s what we started out as. We’ve really stepped up our clothing game.”
She said there are a lot of women-centered businesses at the Waterfront, “which is what we like.”
Former Tallgrass neighbor Nelson Designs is two doors down. Frou Frou is taking a former wealth management space.
It is a slightly smaller space, “so that’s required a lot of thought,” Morrison said.
Don Piros of Landmark Commercial Real Estate handled the deal.
Morrison said she’s still figuring out timing, but the store likely will close March 23 and reopen in the new space in early April.
“We’re very excited to be going over there,” Morrison said.
“It’s still going to be the same Frou Frou. We’ve been here a long time, and people like our concept.”
