Uno Mas Fresh Mex owner has ‘different options on the table’ for 13th and Tyler site

Diners trying to eat at the Uno Mas Fresh Mex near 13th and Tyler have been disappointed to find a closed sign for the past three weeks, and they’re wondering if that’s permanent or not.

Owner Abel Rodriguez isn’t sure yet.

“I’ve got different options on the table for that location,” he said.

Rodriguez also has an Uno Mas near 32nd and Rock Road and the Cabron y Vagos bar at Second and Washington. He said he just barely has enough employees for all the businesses. If someone calls in sick, he said he then doesn’t have enough workers to go around.

“I’ve been struggling for about a year on that.”

He decided to at least temporarily close the west-side Uno Mas while he regroups. Rodriguez said he chose that site over the east-side one because the east side has more traffic and a larger kitchen that handles catering, too.

Though Rodriguez may choose to reopen the west Uno Mas, he said he is in talks with someone else about possibly doing another concept there, too.

He expects to make a decision in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, he said a lot of customers are calling and stopping by wondering what’s going on. Having enough customers at the west-side restaurant never has been an issue, Rodriguez said.

“Business is good.”
