What’s under construction at 167th and Kellogg?

There’s a new 65-acre development coming to the northeast corner of 167th and Kellogg, but developer Paul Kelsey would rather not get too specific about when each phase will be ready.

“I’m always later than I tell people,” he said. “I hate lyin’ anymore. It’s just unreal how long it takes now.”

Kelsey is taking his inspiration for the name of the development from nearby Eisenhower High School and calling it Abilene Place, which is named for President Eisenhower’s childhood hometown.

“It helped me name the thing when we came up with a plan,” Kelsey said. “We’re going to have a couple of streets named Ike in it.”

There will be 100 duplexes at Abilene Place.

At the 10 acres along the frontage road, Kelsey plans several things.

He’s working with a bank to sell it 1.3 acres.

Also, Kelsey said, “I have enough ground that I want to put up a storage facility.”

There will be various sizes.

He’s also building something he’s calling the Caves, which are kind of like storage condos.

He’s going to have 40 to 50 1,550-square-foot units he’ll sell to individuals.

“The latest thing right now, they call them man caves and she sheds.”

Kelsey said so many housing developments, including his own, don’t have basements.

“People need storage, and they want to own their own storage unit.”

He said the caves can be extravagant with bars and pickleball courts in them.

“It’s just unreal with what people are doing with man caves right now.”
