HobbyTown Wichita has moved to its new site within Eastgate Plaza at Kellogg and Rock Road and is celebrating a grand reopening on Saturday.

The store has been at the center for years. Owner Matt Riggins, who bought the business in June 2021, wanted to expand the store from about 4,500 square feet to almost 9,500 square feet next to OshKosh B’gosh.

HobbyTown sells toys, remote-control cars, trucks, planes, boats and drones and model trains, car and rockets. There are also board games, role-playing games and telescopes. When he was growing up, Riggins said he used to shop at the store for model cars and remote-control cars.

“I’ve been shopping at the store for . . . 30 years,” he said when announcing the new store this summer.

HobbyTown, which is a franchise, opened in 1990 and has been in several locations. Riggins is the third owner.

In addition to expanding his toys and games sections, Riggins is expanding his line of STEM kits and activities to promote science, technology, engineering and math.

For the grand reopening, the store will offer free doughnuts from 10 a.m. to noon and then hot dogs and chips from noon to 2 p.m. There will be other giveaways and prizes as well.

The store is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
