Christine Wilson says it’s an “end of an era.”
She’s closing Squeek’s Donuts at 734 N. Waco.
It’s a business her aunt, Squeek Crouse, started almost 35 years ago.
“I lost my lease,” Wilson says. “I didn’t realize I wasn’t going to be renewed.”

She says she has to be out by July 15.
“I have no other choice at this point,” Wilson says. “My hands are tied. … I haven’t been able to find a place to move.”
She’s owned the business, which has had several locations over the years, for five years. Crouse has been gone from the business for nine years.
“Business had been down when I first bought the business, but it had been doing well here the past almost … year,” Wilson says.
She says she’s considered other locations, but they didn’t work out.
“I worked on a place right across the street for a couple of months,” Wilson says.
She says it took two months just to find out what renovations would cost.
“It was too much.”
Wilson says she can’t consider another space at this point.
“It’s just hard to put all the stuff in storage and still not be sure what I can do.”
Her last day of business is Saturday.
There will be an auction of the contents of the business at 9 a.m. on July 14.
Wilson says that Crouse “stands behind me.”
“She’s a little sad, just like all our customers are very sad.”
