Dunkin’ is first tenant for new retail center coming to 47th South and Broadway

UPDATED — A new retail center is coming to the southeast corner of 47th South and Broadway, and its first tenant will be be a doughnut shop.

Dunkin’ is taking 2,100 square feet at the center, which will leave 2,400 square feet left to lease.

Krista Racine of J.P. Weigand & Sons is handling leasing at the center and says demolition work is underway now.

“Construction should start any day.”

Racine pointed out that three highways, I-135, I-35 and I-235, are all nearby, “so it makes it a heavily trafficked intersection.”

Dunkin’ franchisee Dan Day said traffic counts are part of what interested him about the area. He said he likes renovations in the area as well.

“It looks like it’s really kind of revitalizing a bit.”

Day had hoped to get started on the new Dunkin’ earlier this year, but the coronavirus changed his plans.

“We had to put the brakes on.”

Now, Day said, he and his team are “kind of working our way out of COVID.”

The new Dunkin’ will be the chain’s latest model, which Day calls “very cozy.”

He said Dunkin’ has expanded its coffee options, such as having nitro cold brew coffee, breakfast meals all day and lots of what he calls snackers and refreshers to munch on.

This will make the fourth Dunkin’ in Wichita. Day has ones in Derby and Andover as well.

He said he hopes to open the newest Dunkin’ by the end of the year. It joins ones near Central and Rock Road, Maple and West streets and 21st and Greenwich.

“We still need one out west on Maize Road, so we’re still looking out there.”

Day said downtown isn’t out of the question, either.

“It’s possible one day.”
