Pinnacle Realty Group is now its own brokerage with out-of-market plans one day

When he started Pinnacle Realty Group four years ago, Tyson Bean did it under the Berkshire Hathaway PenFed Realty umbrella.

Now, he and his leadership team — senior vice president Grant Farha and executive vice president Lawton Makovec — have broken away from Berkshire.

“It actually gives us far greater control as an independent brokerage,” Farha said.

With more freedom, he said, it also gives the firm an opportunity to better serve clients.

The business structure will remain the same. Most of Pinnacle’s business is residential sales, but it can handle commercial deals as well.

The firm has 14 agents and two administrative staff members.

Pinnacle already had a separate office from Berkshire at 125 E. Second St., between Main and Market streets, and will keep it.

Makovec said Berkshire’s specialty is serving one agent.

“They’re not built and designed to service a team,” he said.

“As our business grew, we had less and less creative control over the brand we were building,” he said. “This really gives us the ability to take our social media to the next level.”

He said all of the firm’s marketing will make a shift, including yard signs.

“We look at our real estate brokerage as being more of a boutique-type brokerage,” Farha said.

There has been a lot of change with the firm in the past couple of years, with both the number of agents and production levels.

“We’ve essentially tripled in size in about two years,” Farha said.

Makovec added that “it’s never been about an agent count.”

“We always say we’d rather have 10 dimes than 100 pennies.”

Farha said the firm will continue to evolve.

“It’s not out of the question for us to look at or consider other markets down the road.”

That could include Kansas City or St. Louis. However, Farha said it won’t happen immediately.

“We’re going to be very open minded, but we want to make sure that home base is really sound and set up and operating the way we want to before we get into any type of expansions.”
