Almost quarter century after opening along Old Town Square, Signal Theory is leaving
When Signal Theory, then Sullivan Higdon & Sink, renovated its offices in early 2017, the agency reconfigured its office for more open and collaborative spaces.
“Ironically, we were moving toward the way we worked,” said managing director Lathi de Silva.
A short three years later, employees are once again working differently — not in the office but from home thanks to the coronavirus — and Signal Theory is looking to sublease its 18,000 square feet at 255 N. Mead and find somewhere smaller.
“People want to continue to work from home,” de Silva said. “We’re just kind of impressed with how well work from home has worked.”
The agency has been in the space, including in larger square footage than what it has now, for 24 years.
“Being able to be flexible is absolutely critical right now,” de Silva said. “We’re trying to be in front of change as much as we can.”
She said it was still a hard decision.
“It’s such a beautiful space. You’re just right in the heart of that Old Town Square.”
She said it’s an area where the agency would like to remain if possible.
De Silva also said she could see the building being used for something other than offices, such as a gallery or makers space.
“Maybe that’s something that adds to the quality of life in Old Town,” she said. “Why keep it dormant and empty when it could be something else?”
