Former Old Town business is returning to a prominent spot along Douglas

Just over a decade ago, Cohlmia Marketing left Old Town for Delano. Now, it’s moving back.

“We had the most wonderful opportunity that came up,” president Carol Skaff said.

The firm, which has a focus on medical and financial clients, is moving to 618 E. Douglas. The approximately 1913 building once was the Hotel Joplin. Most recently, it was home to a law firm, but it has been vacant in recent years. It sits across from the redeveloped Naftzger Park and shares a wall with Gallery Alley.

So we’re very excited about that,” Skaff said.

She calls the area “just as interesting” and central as Delano, where she’s been in the Travel Air Building at 535 W. Douglas.

“That area in Delano is so much fun, but it is changing quite a bit,” Skaff said.

She said the area is becoming more conducive to entertainment and retail businesses, so in part she’s moving to “make room for a more synergistic business there.”

It was important to Skaff to remain along Douglas in order to have its visibility.

“We’ve benefited quite a bit from having Douglas frontage in Delano.”

Marshall Johnson, Nathan Farha and Kris Wessel of NAI Martens handled the deal, and Farha Construction was the contractor.

Skaff said the move to the 2,400-square-foot space, which is also about what the firm has now, will happen late next week.

“We’re right in the central hub of downtown development,” she said. “There will be so much great downtown energy.”
