There’s sad news about a happy business, but it’s not all bad

There’s some sad news about one of the two Gladspoon businesses that Milkfloat owner Cliff Bragg opened last summer.

The Gladspoon ice cream and raw cookie dough business across from the Lowe’s at Maple and Ridge Road has closed.

“We missed too many important months because of the shutdown,” Bragg said. “And then we’re a little concerned about a potential for a resurgence of COVID in the fall and winter and possibly more shutdowns then.”

The Gladspoon in Towne East Square remains open as does Milkfloat, the dessert, lunch and coffee business Bragg opened in 2016 in Delano.

At Milkfloat, Bragg said March is a crucial month for sales.

“That is our top month of the year every single year.”

He said he thinks it has to do with winter ending.

“Spring is coming and people want to be out. That’s one of my guesses.”

Gladspoon missed March and spring break and now the beginning of summer.

“Gladspoon more than Milkfloat was a seasonal business at that location,” Bragg said.

He said he’ll now focus on his Towne East Gladspoon, which has built-in traffic, and Milkfloat.

“It seems more of a strategic decision for us.”

Don Piros with Landmark Commercial Real Estate now is marketing the 1,800-square-foot former Gladspoon space at 7330 W. Maple.

In Delano, Bragg is making some additions and upgrades at Milkfloat.

That includes new patio seating, a couple of new murals, some new take-and-bake options and also the hand-dipped ice cream that had been at the west-side Gladspoon.

“We’re really excited about the future there,” Bragg said.

“It’s going to be really cool.”
