A new business is opening in the former Lou’s Charcuteria space on Commerce Street

A new business is opening in the former Lou’s Charcuteria space on Commerce Street, but it’s not a restaurant and bar.

Axe to Grind will be Wichita’s second ax-throwing business.

“We kind of enjoy blending a lot of different things,” says general operations manager Jonathan Frazzell.

That includes ax-throwing lanes, yard games, beer and simple snacks.

Wichita’s first ax-throwing bar, Blade & Timber, opened in Delano in 2018.

The first Axe to Grind opened in Manhattan almost a year ago. A second opened late last year in Sioux City, Iowa.

Frazzell says the owners, who prefer not to be named, are based in Manhattan but have Wichita ties.

“We have a lot of history with running around over there.”

The space is about 4,500 square feet and should be ready to open in a couple of months, Frazzell says.

Though the only food planned now is chips and candy bars, customers can bring in food — not alcohol — if they like.

Frazzell says his group eventually may look at doing some kind of food “with that building’s potential.”
