Well, look who’s back on the Wichita airwaves again
In the latest installment of the saga of the Wichita Rocking M Media radio stations, Bob-FM — KIBB, 97.1-FM — is back on air as of sometime Tuesday or possibly late Monday.
Rocking M owner Monte Miller couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Via e-mail, Cleveland-based distributor Envision Radio Networks president and CEO Danno Wolkoff said that Bob would remain Bob, but he wouldn’t comment on KVWF, 100.5-FM, the former Flight.
Wolkoff did throw one other twist into the story — though it appears to be a tangential one at best for now — his company has been acquired by Sun Broadcast Group.
Sun has offices in New York, Boston and Boca Raton.
Envision — no relation to the Envision in Wichita — had been “the largest independently owned affiliate relations company in America,” according to a release.
Previously, Wolkoff told Have You Heard? that the former Bob-FM and the former Flight would return, but he wouldn’t discuss the formats.
Bob is back to playing hits from the ’80s, ’90s and “whatever,” according to station promos.
Bob was popular in the market, but Flight seemed to be an even bigger hit, particularly with Gen Xers. It played music that was mostly unavailable on any other Wichita station. As of Tuesday afternoon, it was still off the air.
Rocking M’s KKGQ, 92.3-FM, which is now known as the Brand instead of Kansas Country, returned last week as did KWME, 92.7-FM, which is now called Jammin’ and is a rhythm-and-blues station.
Look for more details as they become available.
