The Dress Gallery in Delano is about to undergo a major renovation in an effort to keep Wichitans in Wichita for their bridal and prom shopping.
“We want them to feel like they can come here and have that 5-star, world-class bridal gown experience without having to travel very far at all,” says Jillian Forsberg, sales manager.
“We are just fully gutting the entire store.”
Forsberg says owner April Huang decided to keep the store open during the almost four-month renovation.
“We’re being very brave about it,” Forsberg says.
The store opened at 1005 W. Douglas just down from La Galette in late 2008. Huang expanded with a second side to the store by knocking out a wall to the next-door space. Forsberg says that’s what’s now allowing them to remodel one side at a time.
“Basically, the entire aesthetic of the store will change,” she says.
The Dress Gallery is getting a new catwalk that will allow customers to take the stage with lots of lights and mirrors to give them a full appreciation of how they’ll look in dresses.
On the bridal side, Forsberg says, “For the family to be able to see them in such a grand setting will be really poignant.”
For prom shoppers, she says, “The girls are going to have a chance to be in the spotlight.”
Though helpful, Forsberg says she could see how walking the catwalk may even be a little intimidating.
“Honestly, if I were still in high school, I don’t know if I’d be brave enough to get up there.”
There will be five new, private rooms for brides and their bridal parties to try on dresses.
Forsberg says they’ll be special rooms – and needed.
“We’ve really just been booming with business.”
