It’s been almost a year since Mid America Powersports owner Ross Reed took back over management of the business, but he says not everyone knows that or understands what led to his return.

“There’s still people out there wondering what happened,” he says.

Reed was working on a deal to sell the business at 333 N. West St. to Marine World & Powersports owners Nathan and Nick Blasi. During that time – from February 2014 to the beginning of July – the Blasis managed the business.

The sale fell through, though, and Reed took back management of the business.

“I’m working with another group,” Reed says of a potential sale, “but you know, I’m also running it day to day.”

He says business is going pretty well.

“I’ve got to say I’m the most encouraged about business than I have been in three or four years.”

Reed sells Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM and KYMCO ATVs, personal watercraft, scooters, side-by-sides, motorcycles and lawn and garden and other power equipment.

He says he was sorry to see his competitor Motorsports close but hired its service staff and says, “That’s obviously helped us.”

Reed isn’t sure if his latest potential deal will work out.

“Who knows if anything will ever become of it.”

He says he’s OK if the business doesn’t sell.

“I’m operating it as if I’m going to be here the rest of my life now, I guess.”
