Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies no longer sliced between owners
Bradley Monahan now has another piece of the pie.
Monahan, who opened Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies at Northwest Centre in August, has purchased the Park City Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies that Herb and Amber Callender opened in 2017.
“The more we thought about it, it would be better for the brand and everybody involved if one person had it instead of two different people,” Herb Callender says.
Monahan previously had the license for Wichita and all the surrounding areas except Park City.
“Obviously, geographically, (he) can grow the business where we can’t,” Callender says. “We wanted to be able to grow and do more things, but we’re more limited.”
He’ll remain with the business until the end of the year to help with the transition.
“It’s been a collaborative effort,” Monahan says. “They’ve done some stuff amazingly well, so we’re going to keep that going.”
For instance, he’s going to incorporate the Callenders’ bierocks into his Northwest Fried Pies.
“The first batch we made, we fell in love with,” Monahan says.
The Park City location also will begin serving the breakfast pies that the Northwest Fried Pies has.
“He brought me one today, and it’s really good,” Herb Callender says.
“So we can try to get the best of all products in both stores,” Monahan says.
He started the business with his wife, Laura, and his father-in-law, Shaker Dakhil. Dakhil is not directly involved in the business, Bradley Monahan says.
He and Callender both say the pie business has been booming.
“It always exceeded our expectations from the get-go,” Callender says.
“It’s been awesome,” Monahan says. “Wichita’s shown us a ton of support.”
In 2019, he says he’ll be looking for his next Fried Pies site.
First, though, he wants to complete the transition of the Park City store and get that store’s food truck out and about more.
“That’ll be the first stomping grounds.”
Callender says he and his wife will take a break for a bit and then find a new passion.
“We put a lot of heart and energy in it,” he says.
“We’ll find us another project. We’ll find something to fall in love with like we did with the pies.”
