More than two decades after opening, Mead Street Gallery and Gifts in Old Town is closing.

The gallery is at 121 N. Mead, just around the corner and in the same building where the new Mead Street Office Collective is opening.

“We don’t have any plans to open anywhere else,” says Curtis Newby, one of five artists who operate the gallery.

“Business has not been real good for about the last year.”

Mostly, though, Newby says, “We’re all getting on in age. Health’s not good.”

Dec. 31 is the last day the gallery will be in business.

Several other artists rent space at the gallery, some of whom are now looking for new space.
