Twin Lakes Shopping Center lands 90,000-square-foot business
Twin Lakes Shopping Center at 21st and Amidon has landed a 90,000-square-foot business, and a long-term one at that.
Affordable Family Storage, which has locations around the region, purchased the two-story former Sears space on the east side of the center.
“We just parceled it off and sold it separately,” says Chris Newkirk, a Kansas City-based CBRE broker.
With lots of apartments nearby, he says extra storage is smart.
“It made a lot of sense.”
CBRE took over leasing the center in December and has made three deals since then.
That includes a renewed Wendy’s lease. Twin Lakes owner US Acquisition Property XVI, which is based in Colorado, recently sold the Wendy’s property to an out-of-state investor.
Also, Las Islas Marias, a Mexican seafood chain, is moving into the former Neighbors Bar & Grill space.
“We’ve had a lot of good activity there,” Newkirk says of the center.
Activity at New Leaf Plaza across the intersection is an opportunity for the west side of Twin Lakes, Newkirk says.
“There’s been a pretty good amount of momentum there ... and so we think that’s a pretty good opportunity to sell some pad sites over there, too.”
Also at Twin Lakes, Huddle House, Chick N Max and Abdul Arif’s law office are also under construction.
No one with Affordable Family Storage returned calls for comment, but look for more information on the company as it becomes available.
Newkirk says he’s talking to other prospects who have shown interest in the center and will let us know when there are more deals.
