'Wanna Hurts Donut?' takes on new meaning as two Hurts Donuts go on the market
There's a big, permanent sign on the side of the Hurts Donut near 21st and Ridge Road that says, "Wanna Hurts Donut?"
The intention is to sell the chain's colorful doughnuts, but the sign is taking on new meaning now because the three families who own Wichita's two Hurts Donuts want to sell the businesses.
"It's been a great adventure for my family," Trista Patterson says.
She, her husband, her parents, her sister and brother-in-law own the businesses.
They opened their first at 7010 W. 21st St. in 2015, and a second Hurts followed at 3750 N. Woodlawn the next year.
"Wichita is crazy about doughnuts, and they come out and support us," Patterson says. "We've had such great success in Wichita."
However, she says that "running two 24-hour businesses is a little intense with young families."
Todd Bailey of Transworld Business Advisors is handling the sale and can be reached at todd@tworld.com.
"It's been neat to work with the community," Patterson says.
She says the businesses will remain open until someone else buys them.
"We know that we're going to find a family that's going to love it just as much as we have."
