Is a Costco store coming to the west side anytime soon?

Costco opened its 150,000-square-foot store at Kellogg and Webb in east Wichita in 2015. It's going to be some time, if ever, before the company opens a store on Wichita's west side.

Rumors persist that a Costco is going to open on the west side, particularly near 135th and Kellogg.

Sorry to disappoint, but it's not true — at least not right now or anytime soon.

Costco isn't commenting.

"Unfortunately, it is our company policy to not comment regarding future Costco warehouses until we are ready to share details about the new location (usually 2-3 months in advance)," a spokesman, who prefers not to be named, said in an e-mail.

"In the future, please visit our website https://www.costco.com/new-locations.html."

There are no Wichita sites on the list, and a source tells us there won't be for years.

So how trustworthy is this source? Well, it's the same one who alerted Have You Heard? to a possible east-side Costco deal in 2012 — two years before a deal was finalized and three years before the store opened at Kellogg and Webb Road.

Is there hope for a west-side Costco one day? Yes. But whatever is causing so much talk of one now doesn't appear to be rooted in reality.
