A new business is opening in the former FNL Denim space downtown at Eaton Place this week.

Derek Davenport is moving his Urban Routine from his home to the 800-square-foot space at 106 S. Emporia to create more of a spa experience for his customers.

"Everyone wants the experience is what it comes down to," Davenport says.

He's a former area manager for Massage Envy. While he did that job, Davenport started started a lash business, Lashed by Derek, on the side.

He's been a licensed aesthetician since 2015.

Davenport built an addition onto his home and began adding employees and services and rebranded to Urban Routine.

"We've outgrown our space," he says.

Also, he says, "We're wanting to add a lot more services."

Urban Routine will offer lash extensions, spray tanning, full-body waxing and a facial bar with 16 facials, four of which are advanced treatments.

"Our whole menu is changing," Davenport says. "This is a really modern approach to skin care."

A lot of times spas are more of a singular experience, he says.

"You don't really get to enjoy each other's company."

Davenport says he'll cater to groups and will be able to do children's facials while their parents have services.

The business will open on Friday and celebrate with a party from 6 to 9 p.m.

Davenport says he wants Urban Routine to be all about fun.

"I wanted an experience that Wichita doesn't have," he says.

He says that and the services he offers go well together.

"It's important to take care of yourself."
