Leiszler Oil, an 86-year-old Manhattan company that has 16 convenience stores in Kansas, is entering the Wichita market with one of its Short Stop stores at 53rd and Meridian.

"We are going to build a new store there," says Alison Leiszler Bridges, executive vice president.

The company purchased an existing Johnson's General Store at the northeast corner and has begun changing the signs to Short Stop.

"Our intentions are to build behind the building so we don't have to close the store," Leiszler Bridges says.

She's not sure on the timing of the new store.

"It's just a matter of getting all of our building plans complete."

The company will build a store that's between 4,000 and 6,000 square feet, and it will add fueling positions as well.

"We're really excited about the possibilities there and excited what we can bring to town," Leiszler Bridges says.

Other future Wichita-area stores are a possibility, she says.

"We're going to explore every option that comes across our desk."
