BSN Sports, which bills itself as the largest sports equipment and apparel distributor nationally, is opening a store in Wichita.
“Anyone that’s buying for a team can walk in,” says customer service representative Tonya Woodman.
BSN, which stands for Best Supply Network in Sports, will be in 4,800 square feet at 8110 W. Central across from Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.
“Which is a great place for us, because that’s one of our big customers,” Woodman says. “Schools tend to be loyal to whoever is serving them face-to-face.”

BSN has seven salesmen who have already been operating here, though Woodman says they all worked for other companies before BSN started acquiring companies and salespeople in the area.
“They did not have a Kansas presence,” she says.
The Dallas-based company started as a factory-direct equipment company in 1972. In recent years, BSN began establishing stores, starting on the East Coast. Woodman says the chain is “heading across (the country) at a rapid rate.”
“In the last seven years, they have exploded in team sales,” she says.
Merchandise includes traditional team apparel and gear, such as bats and balls, for a variety of league and recreational sports. There are also related items such as coolers and benches.
“We carry everything you can think of,” Woodman says.
She says if customers place orders by 1 p.m., most merchandise can be available the following day.
Don Piros of Landmark Commercial Real Estate handled the deal for the space.
Woodman says she hopes to have the store open by May 22.
