Phoenix-based DriveTime Automotive Group is working on a deal to open a store in Wichita.
“We’re the nation’s largest used car dealer and finance company,” says Chris Piper, assistant director of market strategy.
“We specialize in helping people with bad or no credit.”
Piper says the company is considering a 2,500-square-foot store on four and a half acres at 10727 E. Kellogg. That’s where East Side Homes used to be. The manufactured home dealer moved to Augusta more than a year ago.
DriveTime is in a growth mode. It has 128 stores nationally and is adding 12 to 15 more a year.
“We have two other stores currently in the Kansas City market,” Piper says. “We just had a really good response from the other consumers in that area. There’s demand for a couple more.”
A store will open in Olathe in August.
Piper expects a Wichita deal to happen by early summer. DriveTime likely would then open by Sept. 1.
