R&J Discount Liquor is a popular liquor store near College Hill, but as anyone who has ever been there can attest, its parking lot is a challenge.
“The other Friday, I couldn’t get out of my own parking lot,” Shelly Breault says of congestion there.
Frustrations are coming to an end.
Breault and her husband, Jeff, have purchased the property next to them and demolished a dog wash that used to be there.

“We’ve got to get the parking lot taken care of,” Shelly Breault says.
Eventually, she says, “We want … to do a nice expansion.”
The Breaults also now own their property for the first time and plan changes and additions, such as outdoor lighting.
“Now we can actually improve it (and) make it a better place and safe place,” Shelly Breault says.
Jeff Breault says they had considered moving the business before buying the two properties.
They didn’t want to leave, though.
“We have such a loyal clientele,” he says. “Douglas is a happening place. We love Douglas.”
Shelly Breault says Wednesday is the 18th anniversary of them buying the business.
“He was sitting over at Harry’s one night,” she says of her husband.
“Came home and said, ‘I think we just bought a liquor store.’ ”
Jeff Breault says most customers are pretty much saying the same thing about the plan for expanded parking.
“We hear nothing but rave reviews of, ‘Thank God. It’s about time.’ ”
