Gary Streepy to open new shop in former Pea Pod Consignment space

There’s a new tenant where Pea Pod Consignment used to be at Second and Hydraulic, and it’s someone with a very familiar face.

That’s because it’s former Pea Pod owner Gary Streepy.

Streepy no longer has a consignment shop, but he still owns Three Pea Home Staging.

He’s been storing his furniture – including a lot of furniture he’s not using – in a rented warehouse.

“What was I thinking?” Streepy says.

Now, he says he figures he can sell his extra supply instead of paying to store it.

The business opens Saturday and will be called Furniture Exchange.

“It kind of describes what we’re going to be doing there,” Streepy says. “I should call it Deja Vu.”

Initially, Streepy plans to be in the space for only three months.

“If it goes good, I may just stay there.”

This store won’t be a consignment shop like he had previously, but Streepy will accept furniture to sell.

“I’ll just pay them cash for it.”

The store will be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

“I’ve got plenty of furniture to keep on staging with,” Streepy says.

He says he doesn’t need the furniture because the houses he’s staging all seem to be in a gray motif, and a lot of his furniture is more brown, gold and other earthier tones.

Furniture Exchange is next to where the new Vortex Souvenir recently opened.

“That’s pretty hip,” Streepy says of the stationery and gift shop. “Pretty cool place.”

He says it’s a lot more fun to have a store than a warehouse.

“I love staging. I love making the store look good,” he says. “I’ll tell you, it sure looks better there than it does in my warehouse.”
