Longtime Le Monde Cafe & Deli owner Mohamad Krichati, who has lived in California for the last five years, died in a car accident last week.

“We’re shocked,” says Ghassan Hajeh, his brother-in-law and Le Monde partner. “All of us. We’re shocked.”

Hajeh says the accident happened after Krichati, who also was an engineer, left work.

“He was going back home.”

Krichati owned Le Monde since the mid-1990s.

“So many customers, they know him, too,” says Hajeh, who has been at Le Monde since 1997.

Hajeh says in recent years, he’s run the restaurant, and Krichati handled the paperwork.

“He was a good guy. A family guy,” Hajeh says. “God wants him. God wants him, maybe.”
