No, Towne West Square isn’t closing

Towne West Square has been the victim of some fake news that’s tricked some Wichitans as well.

There’s something that’s making the internet rounds that’s headlined “Wichita Towne West mall to close by end of summer due to Bankruptcy.”

The lead of the “story” says: “After years of struggling to keep stores open, the owner of Wichita’s Towne West Mall has decided to declare bankruptcy.”

If you click on that, though, the link takes you to a page featuring a clown that tells you you’ve been tricked.

“To be clear: This is a fake news website,” Kimberly Green, a spokeswoman for mall owner Washington Prime Group, said in an e-mail.

“We have no plans to close Towne West Square. This post, which is being shared via social media as a prank, is completely false.”
