An Olympic athlete is inspiring the owner of a Wichita start-up business who happens to be a winner himself.
Wichita State University entrepreneurship major Steve Werner and his Lawn Buddy company have won $17,000 in cash and services from Cox Business Get Started Wichita.
Werner’s company is sometimes compared to Uber for it’s on-demand nature. Customers download his app to request service when they need it.
“It seems like there’s a Uber for everything now,” Werner says.
It’s not that he minds being the Uber of anything, but he says he’d rather be the benchmark that others in his industry eventually are compared to.
Werner says he was inspired by gymnast Simone Biles during the Olympics this summer.
He says he liked it when she said that “she’s not the next Michael Phelps. She’s the first Simone Biles.”
“That’s really the kind of mantra that I want us to live by.”
