Heartland Credit Union will build a new branch in the northwest Wichita area, according to a news release.

The Hutchinson-based credit union announced Thursday that a 13,500-square-foot facility will be constructed at the intersection of 37th Street North and Maize Road, just north of the Goodwill store.

The branch is expected to be open during the first half of 2017, the release said.

“We’re looking forward to bringing additional convenience and value to our Wichita-area members and prospective members,” said Garth Strand, Heartland’s president, in the release.

Heartland, which has been in Wichita since 1987 after a merger with Farm Credit Employees Federal Credit Union, currently makes its home in Wichita at 245 N. Waco.

Expected to feature a community room, two drive-through lanes and Heartland investment and insurances offices, the new building will house up to 40 employees, according to the release.

Simpson Construction and Shelden Architecture will contract on the project. A groundbreaking will take place at the site at 11 a.m. June 24. Heartland has about 22,400 members and claims $270 million in assets.
