Matt Wendling, who started a mortgage operation for Bank of Oklahoma in Wichita four years ago, has joined competitor BNC National Bank as an area manager for its mortgage business.
In his new post, Wendling will manage BNC’s local operations as well in Topeka. Wendling also will be responsible for leading an expansion of BNC’s mortgage business into southeast Kansas, southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas, said J.R. Rohr, vice president for mortgage retail sales at BNC’s mortgage division.
Wendling said Monday that he left BOK Mortgage as vice president and regional manager in February and started at BNC two weeks ago.
“It was an opportunity for us to work together,” Rohr said. “We complement each other (in our) management styles. And it’s an opportunity to grow not only in Wichita, but the whole area.”

“I’ve watched what he’s done in the market over eight, nine years and I was amazed,” Wendling said of Rohr, who opened BNC’s mortgage business in Wichita in 2008.
BNC is a unit of North Dakota-based bank holding company BNCCORP, which has $975 million in assets. It employs 18 people at its office at 2868 N. Ridge.
A BOK Financial spokeswoman said in an e-mail to The Eagle on Monday that Merrily Guyer is the new manager for Bank of Oklahoma Mortgage in Wichita. Guyer has 21 years of experience in mortgage lending and was previously with Intrust Bank.
