Colombian airline has plans to add 100 Airbus narrowbody jets

Avianca Holdings, the flag and national carrier of Colombia, signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire 100 A320neo narrowbody airliners, Airbus said Thursday.

The deal is valued at $10.6 billion at current list prices.

Parts of the A320’s wings are manufactured by Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita.

Airbus said in a news release that Avianca Holdings now has combined orders for nearly 200 Airbus aircraft. That’s atop 130 currently in operation.

The A320 is a direct competitor to the Boeing 737.

Airbus did not disclose additional information about the MOU, including differences in firm and optional orders as well as when deliveries might start.
