U.S. and European aviation regulators have awarded Bombardier certification for its C Series CS100 airliner.

Bombardier made the announcement Wednesday night.

The type validation from the European Aviation Safety Agency allows the company to deliver its first CS100 to Swiss International Airlines by the end of June, Bombardier said. Federal Aviation Administration certification allows the aircraft to be operated in the U.S.

“In the same week that our C Series aircraft surpassed 5,000 flight hours and the first SWISS aircraft readies for its first flight, we are celebrating another very proud moment,” said Robert Dewar, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft’s vice president of C Series, in a news release.

Flight testing of the CS100 has been split 50-50 between the Bombardier Flight Test Center in Wichita and just outside Montreal.

The certifications come less than two months after Delta Air Lines placed a firm order for 75 CS100s with an option for 50 more, making the Atlanta-based airline the largest C Series customer.
