Spirit AeroSystems laid off 42 workers earlier this month, according to a posting this week on the state’s WARN notice registry.

The posting on the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification registry said the layoffs happened on March 14.

Wichita’s largest private employer said in an e-mailed statement to The Eagle that it continually reviews its employment and adjusts its workforce based on customer demands and improvements in efficiency.

“Spirit is investing in long-term growth, and over the next several years our job projections are positive,” the statement said. “On some programs we are experiencing production rate reductions while we are preparing for future production increases on other programs.”

The statement said the company will continue hiring “for specific skillsets and currently has a need for more than 115 employees in a variety of skills including engineering, finance and management.”

The company has about 11,000 workers in Wichita. The layoffs represent about 0.4 percent of its total workforce.
