The Kansas Department of Transportation on Tuesday named the great-grandson of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower as the next director of its aviation division.
Merrill Eisenhower Atwater comes to the post after working 10 years for a variety of companies and organizations in Washington, D.C., California, Iowa and Missouri. He was most recently national sales director for Housby, a Des Moines-based company that comprises Mack and Isuzu truck retail sales, truck maintenance and auctions.
As director, Atwater will work with the Federal Aviation Administration and businesses and individuals with an interest in aviation across the state. He will oversee KDOT aviation programs including the Kansas Airport Improvement Program.
Atwater replaces Tiffany Brown, who accepted a position with the FAA in Denver.
