The long-time Wichita leader of the union representing engineers and professional and technical workers at Spirit AeroSystems has retired.

The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace said Bob Brewer retired Jan. 28 as its Midwest director.

Brewer, 62, had been with SPEEA’s Wichita office for 15 years. He previously worked at Boeing in Wichita, Mississippi, Louisiana and Montana.

Union officials did not have details Monday on when a successor would be named.

SPEEA represents more than 2,300 workers at Spirit through two bargaining groups: the Wichita Technical and Professional Unit and the Wichita Engineering Unit.
