Work on Eisenhower Airport play area to begin
Work is expected to start Monday night on a new children’s play area inside the Wichita Eisenhower National Airport terminal.
Construction of the jungle-themed children’s play area inside gate one at the terminal is expected to be finished sometime later this week, Victor White, the city’s director of airports, told members of the airport advisory board at a meeting Monday afternoon.
“We’re excited to see that go in and hopefully it will be done by the end of the week,” White said.
The play area, designed and manufactured by Colorado-based Playtime, will include five sculpted foam animals — a white tiger and cub, a giraffe, a rhinoceros and a hippopotamus — that children can climb on and through; an interactive touch screen; soft flooring; and a parent seating area with temporary storage for children’s shoes.
The City Council in early October approved the $85,000 contract with Playtime, which is installing the play area.
It will be paid for from the budget for the new terminal, which opened in June.
