Boeing completes final configuration for 777X
Boeing has reached final configuration for the 777X, the next generation of its twin-aisle jetliner.
Final configuration for the jet includes 12 percent lower fuel consumption and 10 percent lower operating costs than competing jets as well as new cabin features and improved passenger comfort, the company said in a news release Thursday.
Boeing said it allows the 777X team to begin detailed design of parts, assemblies and other systems for the airplane.
The configuration process included input from airline customers and suppliers, Boeing said. It has received orders and commitments for 320 airplanes from six customers worldwide.
Spirit AeroSystems is a major supplier of 777 structures including the forward fuselage, pylons, nacelles and wing leading edge.
Production of the 777X — which will include the 777X-8 and 777X-9 — is expected to begin in 2017.
