Booking ahead? Wichita airport adds seasonal flight to popular vacation destination
Wichita travelers will have another option to fly nonstop to Florida starting in June.
Lower-cost carrier Southwest Airlines will offer a seasonal, nonstop flight from Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport to Orlando International Airport beginning in June 2026, the Wichita airport announced in a news release Thursday.
The flight will be offered each weekend starting Saturday, June 6 through Saturday, Aug. 1.
Southwest’s flight be the second seasonal, nonstop flight to the Florida city offered out of Eisenhower. Budget airline Allegiant Air services a flight to Orlando-Sanford International Airport.
This isn’t the only new flight announced by the airport recently. In September, Southwest announced an additional direct flight to Chicago amid plans to end Wichita’s nonstop service to St. Louis.
The plans for seasonal operations this summer come as several major U.S. airports experience operational disruptions due to the federal government shutdown that began Oct. 1. Eisenhower officials told The Eagle this week the Wichita facility hasn’t experienced staffing shortages.
Travelers will notice, however, a change in the Transportation Security Administration’s process to ease screening. The TSA dropped its “no-shoe” policy in July, and Wichita, as well as several other airports, confirmed they implemented the change.
