U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran and the Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition plan to hold a supplier symposium with defense contractor Northrop Grumman.
The symposium, set for noon to 4:30 p.m. July 2 at the National Center for Aviation Training, will include 10 minute, one-on-one meetings between suppliers and Northrop Grumman representatives. It also will include a presentation on how to become a Northrop supplier, a panel discussion with Kansas suppliers to Northrop, and an overview of the company’s supplier diversity program.
The program is free to aviation suppliers in Wichita, and lunch will be served.
Moran, R-Kan., said in an interview that the July symposium will be similar to one he helped to arrange with Airbus in 2012.

He said his role as co-chair of a Senate aerospace caucus with Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., gives him access to defense companies looking to broaden their base of suppliers.
“The relationships I have with defense companies, we want to utilize the opportunity to get them connected with Kansas businesses,” Moran said.
“These (symposiums) open the door and get things started” for area suppliers to build relationships with manufacturers, he added.
From the Airbus experience, he said, “I think it has proven to be very useful.”
