Navy taps Boeing for ground-based Poseidon jet trainers
Under a new Navy contract, Boeing will provide training systems allowing P-8A Poseidon jet crews to train on the ground.
Boeing will begin to deliver seven Deployable Mission Readiness Trainers to the Navy in 2019.
The trainers will help crews aboard the 737-based Poseidon maintain proficiency in their maritime patrol reconnaissance duties on the ground and at their respective bases. About 70 percent of the Poseidon aircraft are manufactured in Wichita at Spirit AeroSystems.
Boeing said more than half of Poseidon aircrew training occurs in simulators and other trainers.
