Textron Aviation on Friday took U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran on a demonstration flight of its Scorpion tactical jet.

The flight piloted by Lyons native Aaron Tobias took place shortly before noon from the company’s east campus at Central and Webb.

The jet was designed and built in Wichita, and has been marketed primarily to foreign military services as a low-cost aircraft to be used for intelligence gathering, surveillance and reconnaissance, and close air support missions.

It also will participate in the Air Force’s OA-X light attack experiment in August alongside another Textron Aviation airplane, the Beechcraft AT-6.
