B-29 ‘Doc’ tour starts in Wichita, includes EAA AirVenture

The Boeing B-29 Bomber known as “Doc” will be on display at a public open house on April 22 at Yingling Aviation, Doc’s Friends announced Tuesday.

Organizers said the public will be able to tour the airplane from 1 to 8 p.m. at Yingling, which is at Wichita Eisenhower National Airport. Admission is expected to be $20 per person.

The Wichita open house will kick off a first-half 2017 tour schedule for the World War II bomber that will include stops at the following airshows: Defenders of Liberty show at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La., May 6-7; Wings Over Whiteman at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, Mo., June 10-11; and the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., July 24-30.

“Our vision throughout the restoration project has been to share this historic warbird with the world by operating Doc as a flying museum to honor those who built, maintained and flew B-29s to protect America’s freedom at home and abroad,” Jim Murphy, Doc’s Friends restoration program manager, said in a news release Tuesday.

Doc’s Friends said it also in discussions to bring the airplane to other airshows this summer, including in Oklahoma and Colorado.
