1,800 CitationJets and counting

Cessna Aircraft on Tuesday said the Model 525 CitationJet recently marked its 25th anniversary, with more than 1,800 of them sold.

The prototype CitationJet, later designated as the Citation CJ1, made its first flight on April 29, 1991. Deliveries began two years later.

The subsidiary of Textron Aviation said the original 525 has since spawned eight variants, including the current production M2, CJ3-Plus and CJ4.

“We’re closing in on 2,000 Model 525s delivered to customers around the globe; nearly three times that of our nearest competitor,” said Kriya Shortt, Textron Aviation’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, in a news release Tuesday.
