Historic Ford Tri-Motor plane in Hutchinson this week

A 1929 Ford Tri-Motor, nicknamed the “Tin Goose,” will be at the Hutchinson Municipal Airport to give rides to the public and be on display Monday afternoon through Wednesday.

The visit is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association.

The Tri-Motor is commonly known as the first mass-produced airliner. From 1926 to 1933, Ford Motor Co. built 199 Tri-Motors.

The EAA’s model 4-AT-E was the 146th Tri-Motor off Ford’s assembly line. It first flew Aug. 21, 1929, and was sold to Pitcairn Aviation’s passenger division, Eastern Air Transport, which later became Eastern Airlines.

Flights will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, a EAA official said.

The charge for adults is $75.
