Volaris, a Mexico-based low-cost carrier, is the first North American airline to take delivery of an A320neo narrowbody jet, Airbus said Monday.
Airbus said the airline is its largest customer in Mexico, with orders for 74 A320 Family airliners. Volaris currently has 63 A320 Family jets in operation.
The A320neo that Volaris took delivery of is powered by Pratt & Whitney’s Geared Turbofan engines, which also power Bombardier’s new C Series airliner. Geared Turbofan engine production has been hit with delays because of supply chain problems, which have in turn caused airplane delivery delays for both Bombardier and Airbus.
Airbus operates an engineering center in Wichita, and Spirit AeroSystems manufactures parts of the A320 wing.
