Former Kansas transportation secretary Mike King has joined Murphy Tractor & Equipment Co.

King will be the Park City-based John Deere construction equipment dealer’s region director for the Plains.

“I have known Mike for many years during his tenures as a member of management for one of the most successful contractors in Wichita, as owner of his own construction company, and most recently as the Secretary of the Kansas Department of Transportation,” Murphy Tractor president Tom Udland said in a news release.

King grew up in Hesston and is the grandson of a Kansas bridge builder. In 1992, he bought King Enterprise Group, an oil and gas industry general contractor that he sold to Wichita-based Hutton Construction, after he was named the state’s transportation secretary in March 2012.

Murphy Tractor operates 28 locations in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Nebraska.
